Student Composition Competition: We premiere new works composed in celebration of GVSU’s 50th Anniversary. The performance takes place among the artwork that inspired the compositions, selections from the gallery show The Ravines. Cash prizes will be given after the concert for the top three works as determined by a judging panel, plus an audience prize.

As part of the GVSU 50th Anniversary celebrations, we are joined by the Grammy-winning chamber ensemble eighth blackbird. The show opens with their performance of Marc Mellits' Spam. We then join them onstage with the amazing electronic artist Dennis DeSantis to perform an unforgettable realization of Terry Riley’s iconic work In C.

Seven of our members join 92 other percussionists from around the country to perform John Luther Adams’ Inuksuit. Presented on the summer solstice as part of the citywide festival Make Music New York, this free performance will offer an opportunity for all New Yorkers to experience this moving and important work set amidst the beautiful, dramatic terrain of Morningside Park
